So recently, I remembered that my mother once told me something humorous about my travelling talents as an infant. So on a recent visit, i asked her more about this strange phenomenon
Apparently, during that precious time when children first learn to crawl, i chose another method; rolling.
My mum said she used to set me up with toys and cushions and just let me play for a while. But when i got bored, i let myself loll back, and then just let the good times roll ;)
But unfortunately, i hadn't precisely got the knack down, as i could only roll one way. So she would come to check on me and find me stuck in a corner. Just continuously trying to roll into the wall, most likely, and repeatedly hitting my head. Apparently I wouldn't even cry, I was probably just too dayum confused.
Much like a hamster in a ball.
Rolling is far more fun then crawling, and even more fun then walking, and I aim to roll places more often.

After a recommendation from a friend, I listened to BestCoast, and instantly fell in love.
This band from L.A have managed to create music that defines summer afternoons on the beach. The winning combination of simple lyrics, high reverb vocals and Beach Boy bass lines make up the majority of their songs, ensuring that song after song is catchy, happy and more dreamy than a spaced out surfer.Although comparable to a modern-day, female version of Beach Boys, BestCoast have something those boys didn't; a vocalist that doesn't become droney and samey. Bethany Cosentino's (vocalist) voice was better than expected, and although using effects in recordings and live, they are for the benefit of the songs and not as a tool to hide an average voice. She reached easily high notes and that 70s note changing vibrato.
Despite Bob, the lead guitarist, being pretty pissed (=D), they pulled the gig off comfortably, and it didn't drag on, as most of their songs are easily under 3 minutes. While this is in-keeping with their genre, it meant that every song ended quicker than you wanted it to. This is a compliment to them as we want to hear more from them, but I think if their songs were a bit longer, it would offer the chance to let the listeners become fully submerged. But having said this, with this sort of style, it is easy for songs to become repetitive, so Best Coast have got it spot on- always leaving the crowd wanting more. Bethany did ask the crowd to wake up at one point, so obviously everybody was day dreaming of a sea breeze.
The song that got the crowd dancing the most was "When I'm With You", which is one of their best, which starts with a slow intro and dives into a quicker pace, with a rumbling drum beat.
Other notable numbers was the cover of Lesley Gores 70's hit of "That's The Way Boys Are" (Original VS Cover), with Gore also famous for that lovely song "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows", that I only know from The Simpsons!
But you can easily see how a style such has Gores have influenced BestCoast, shown in another of their better songs "Sun Was High (So Was I)". This is the song that now plays in my head when I create a montage of Summers gone by, with people I haven't seen in years, drinking, smoking and laughing. The past-tense lyrics and lengthy notes create a feeling of reminiscent nostalgia, but as nostalgia so often is, the yearning is for something lost and never felt again.
They also played a new song called "Our Deal", which despite sounding similar at the start due to rhmying "crazy" again, actually sounds different from a lot of their stuff. Bethany is more vocally chalenged, which is refreshing and shows that this band has a lot of future potential.
Oh and they also love cats.

A week before February 14th a plague of pink, red and white hearts invade the windows of most shops on your local high-street. If you dare venture inside such places you will be surrounded by plump tissue paper, inflated balloons with strained, inflated phrases and, plushy toys, clutching onto words of promise and price tags. An air of apprehension descends around this time, as it dawns what day is fast approaching.
Not so much.
Clarification is needed; I admit, I am quite the Romantic (capital 'R' thank you very much!) and I guess I just believe that acts of love are always appropriate, instead of solidifying them all on one day, where the act is proven with all/any of the following:
Having a gf/bf does create the dilema of whether to buy a gift, and if so, what? Or perhaps more importantly; why?! Why on Feb 14th? Why not when it's another dull, boring day when it is unexpected instead of expected.
And those that to happen to be single on this particular day, it's just another reminder of what you probably already well know; that another year has gone around without meeting someone, or, meeting someone but since breaking up.
It's just a big day of sadness.
Boo.
Phew, that was depressing! I had planned some more cynical statements but I have forgotten them now.

As many facebook groups have noticed, pancake day is tomorrow! And soon February will end and we can all look forward to that first day of spring when coats won't be needed. And beer gardens will be more appealing than watching a film under the covers. And cider will be the preferred beverage instead of tea (sometimes!)

Nawwh not really. I'm not as awesome as that. This is me, dressed as a Lassie dog for a fancy dress night, I wish we could all dress like that all the time!I am starting this rather self-indulgent blog as an attempt to practise a writing style that may be useful to me after my so-called English Degree, which I am becoming increasingly despondent with as the course progresses. Like many others I am sure, I have no idea what to do after Uni, which isn't all that surprising, seeing as I didn't have a clue before! I guess I only went to Uni has a way of escaping the never-ending questions regarding my future from surprisingly concerned friends/relatives. I don't even think I had any childhood aspirations for a career path, especially after I took the required test at High School, which resulted in me being told the happy news that I was going to be an "ERROR- NO RESULT ACHIEVED" when I grew up. Looking back now, it has actually been pretty damned accurate so far. Those bastards.
So what sort of things will I be blogging about? Well....I'm not sure at this moment in time, probably anything and everything, which is a good way to live. Expect student adventures, music/film/tv/food/drink/venue reviews, general wonderment's from my brain, failed recipes, crafting attempts alongside hopefully not too many drunken acclaims of love (as my Twitter account has basically turned into).
